Parliament has decided on a new goal for the financial sector: the financial system shall contribute to sustainable development.
One of the government's assignments for FI in 2017 is to map and analyse the possibilities available within its area of responsibility to contribute to the goal of promoting sustainable development through the financial system.
There are strong mutual interdependence between the financial sector and climate- and other sustainability-related targets, in particular with regard to the climate transition, which will require considerable investments. This will place high demands on a stable and well-functioning financial sector. Such a development would also introduce risks in the financial sector that need to be managed by financial firms, which in turn places demands on supervision.
FI has also previously been commissioned by the Government to publish a number of reports on this topic.
